Well, Hello There

This will be a drive by post where things make sense in my head. I'll just apologize up front and get that over with. So, I'm sorry. And: Happy New Year!

And moving on...

I've been on holiday for several days now and I must say I'm quite enjoying it. What I'm finding is that though you would *think* this would mean that list of things to do that I've had in mind for this time would be getting knocked off with flare, aplomb and quiet efficiency, in reality I've barely gotten started on it. Where is the time going? I haven't really been spending time online (I'm waaaay behind with reading everyone's entries here, for starters) and I haven't been reading any more than usual. So what gives?

OK, I have seen a couple of movies. I give my enthusiastic endorsement to Charlie Wilson's War. Go forth and see it. You won't be sorry, I promise.

I'm still pondering over Atonement. One thing that considerably lessened my enjoyment was sitting next to a man who I'll call Mr. Obvious. For some reason, he found it necessary to explain to his wife certain scenes as if it weren't perfectly obvious what was going on. As I sat there I thought to myself, "Oh yeah, *that's* why so many people don't go to the movies any more and prefer to watch them at home."

Oh, and my husband got me the remastered Joshua Tree set, so I watched the concert that comes with it. The concert was done in July of 1987 in Paris. I saw them for the first time in May of 1987, so the versions of the songs they performed were closer to what I saw than the versions that appear in Rattle and Hum. It amazed me, like it always does, how even the smallest snippets of something can take me right back in time to a previous time I heard that sound. Hearing that 1987 version of New Year's Day had me back at my parent's home before I even knew what hit me. Eerie.

Let's see, what else have we been up to? Family stuff, of course. We played Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader on Christmas and, I'm sorry to say, I'm not. I got taken out of one game by a second grade question related to politics. For some reason, the word "Congress" wouldn't come to mind and the best I could do was "Legislature". I did redeem my honor in a subsequent game and make it through to win, so phew!, all those years of school didn't completely count for nothing. There's also been errand running (we are on the hunt for a particular kind of halogen light bulb, for one thing - why are they so hard to find?) and a bit of shopping with the birthday and Christmas money we received. I guess that's it. It doesn't sound like much, but somehow it's managed to take up several days.

And now I'm dangerously close to boring myself and heaven only knows what torture you're suffering (if you've made it this far all I can say is, again, I'm sorry) so I think this is the moment to give myself a "That'll do, pig. That'll do." and close this out before I embarrass myself any further. Ta.
