summer reading

Tail Chasing

Despite working all day, I don't believe I've actually accomplished anything. It's a very frustrating sensation. I've sent e-mails, I've read documents, I've participated in discussions, I've taken and made phone calls and yet... Perhaps this sensation is because of the extremely simple letter I started hours ago and still haven't managed to complete due to various interruptions.

I dunno. All I know is I'd like to just shuffle things into a pile and toddle off home with hope in my heart that it'll all be better tomorrow.

In other news, I'm going to kill my husband. Not the real kind of killing involving stabbings or guns, but the kind where you think of the perfect (perhaps even elaborate) practical joke and successfully pull it off. He seriously needs some comeuppance. Here's why: I was finishing my lunch and grabbed my cell phone to make my daily lunch call to my daughter. I saw she had sent me a text, so I texted her back. We traded texts for a few minutes then came the message "There's some strange man knocking at the door. What do I do?" Of course at the moment I received it, I was in an elevator in my building and couldn't get reception to call her. It was a long and agonizing wait until I was at my desk and could call her back. First of all, I thought her dad was home with her so I couldn't figure that out. Second of all, I was thinking she should know not to answer the door so why was she even asking me that? Did she open the door to strangers regularly? On and on my thoughts spun until I finally got a hold of her.

She didn't know what I was talking about.

"There's no stranger knocking at the door?"
"Where's your dad, I thought he was supposed to be there."
"He is. He's sitting right here. He wanted to text you something on my phone. Did you get it? What did he say?"
"Grrrr-arrrrgh! Tell him he's a jerk and I'm going to kill him!"
"Mom says you're a jerk and she's going to kill you."

So you see, he needs to go down in the worst possible way. All reasonable ideas will be heard. The phone lines are open and I'm listening.
